New Year Resolutions!

Every year I try to do the whole New Year Resolutions. Not once have a stuck through with them and actually done whatever it was 100%. This year though, it's a different story! Ok, never know what may come up, BUT I will be trying my hardest to do them! Wikipedia says: "A New Year's resolution is a commitment that a person makes to one or more personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit".

These are my New Year Resolutions...

1. I want to become more consistent with adding to my savings.

2. A lot of people make a resolution to lose weight, but I don't want to lose weight. I want to be healthier and become fit again. I was a lifeguard at the beach for 3 years and I miss the daily work outs we would do. So I would like to get back into that routine again. It has been hectic with the wedding and moving so I feel like I never had time. I will now! To go along with that, I have a goal of running another marathon this year! Anyone need a running buddy?!

3. Paint my apartment! I know that sounds silly, but I get so nervous to paint a room. I always feel like I'm going to choose a color too dark or just too wrong. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?? So that is something I want to do this year. Hopefully soon.

4. I want to learn how to speak Spanish! I keep saying I'm going to learn, but again that whole being an adult thing and having no time comes into play. Another thing I will try to work in!

5. Last one is to go on more dates with D. Even if it's having a picnic in our living room. At least it is something different.

{A fun picture we took for our engagements. We put on the back of our sign in book as a goodbye picture}

I hope everyone has a good New Years Eve! I will be loading up on chips and dip, wings, and who knows what other junk. I guess I'll have to go all out while I can. Last night to do it ;) And of course some monopoly deal, rummikub, and catch phrase with the family.

Have fun and stay safe!

French Onion Soup

There's is nothing better than some warm french onion soup on a cold, rainy day. The rich taste of the pumpernickel bread and the creaminess of the melted swiss cheese. Yummmm!

-4 tbsn butter
-1 tsp salt
-2 large red onions
-2 sweet onions
-1 48 oz. can chicken broth
-1 14 oz. can beef broth
-1/2 cup red wine
-1 tbsn worcestershire sauce
-1 sprig of thyme
-3 bay leaves
-1 tbsn balsamic vinegar
-8 slices of swiss cheese
-pumpernickel bread

1. Melt the butter in a pot over medium heat. Add salt, red onions, and sweet onions. Onions should be thinly sliced. Stir pretty often until caramelized. To me they look stringy and that's how I know. Maybe 30ish mins??

2. Then add red wine, worcestershire sauce, chicken broth, and beef broth. Also add bay leaves and thyme {I've made it without the thyme before and it still tastes just fine} Simmer for about 15-20mins. Stir occasionally. Remove bay leaves and thyme.

3. Preheat the oven to broil and turn heat to low. Mix in vinegar. Once the oven is heated, put the bread slices on a pan and broil on each side for 3-4 mins.

4. Put the soup into oven safe bowls and add slices of cheese on top. {Some people like to put the bread on top as well, but I don't like it to be soggy. So I just break it up into pieces and put into the soup when it's done. It still gets soft}. Make sure the edges of the cheese are on the edge of the bowl. Put the bowls on a cookie sheet and broil until cheese is brown, 5 mins.

And there you have it! Delicious!!!

First Christmas

What a lovely day it was yesterday. Being able to spend the day with my family and just being able to relax. It was our first Christmas together this year. There's no one else I would have rather been with. I think my favorite part of Christmas morning is watching people open the gifts I got for them. I have such a good time picking out gifts I know my family members will love!

These pictures are bad quality, but that's ok!

I hope everyone had a Merry Merry Christmas :)

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone!
Here are two very touching videos that really stress the true meaning of this day.

Everyone always talks about remembering the true spirit of Christmas, and I think that these two videos do an excellent job of portraying that: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
-Isaiah 9:6
It's important to remember, as the first video shows, that He can heal all wounds and that He can support us when we feel weak because He has suffered for us. That's what this time of year is all about, and remembering that will lead us to the Savior of the World. The website always provides and shares the best Christmas messages. Ones that everyone can relate to.
The second video is of the Nativity. Very beautiful with Amy Grant's "Breath of Heaven" playing in the background. Showing us the journey of Mary and Joseph and  the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. A great video to watch on this Christmas day.

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Home for Christmas

With it being the Christmas season, everyone is going their separate ways. Home beckons to all of us, whatever form it takes, and although we all don't have the privilege of being home for the holidays, you can have the spirit of Christmas wherever you find yourself this time of year.

I have the privilege of being with my family and we are actually in the Outer Banks at my grandma's house. Such a beautiful place, right on the water.

Love these shoes :)

This is where I am for Christmas! Where are you?!

Last Minute Stocking Stuffers

Anyone else a last minute shopper?! I tell myself every year that I will be better. It never happens. I seem to always put it off. Well, next year I won't wait until the week before Christmas to buy my gifts! ;) So if you are like me and need to buy some last minute gifts here are some ideas for last minute stocking stuffers...

Stocking Stuffers

~What happens when the battery in your car dies and you have no light because it is in the middle of the night?! This has actually happened to me before. So why not put a mini flashlight in a stocking? It's a practical gift, but very useful! Easy to keep in the center console or glove box.~

~Socks are always nice. Especially some cute winter ones!~

~Last year for Christmas I was given some make up brushes. I didn't necessarily need any, but what a great idea to keep some in the car or purse. Keep some at home and the rest on the go.~

~I love Christmas mugs. Need a good tradition to start?? Get a new mug every year.~

~Gum is always a necessity. Cheap and very easy to pick up while getting your Christmas egg nog from the grocery store.~

~I'm always on the look out for new colors for my nails! Get a cute red Christmas color.~

I'm sure there are more great ideas, but basically I'm just hinting that this is what I want! None of these really work for gentlemen either; I will leave that up to you. Good luck with your last minute Christmas shopping!

3 more days!

Song of the Week

I hope everyone is enjoying this Christmas season. I know I am. I love being home! This week's song of the week is a different one. They are actually making fun of a real song and I think it is hilarious.

PS-Spread love, peace, and joy throughout the world.

This is my view right now by the way....

Couldn't be happier!

Blast from the Past

Home for the holidays and it is so nice. Just relaxing on the couch. Having food in the house. Good friends. Great family! Just loving it right now :) Being home kind of led to looking through pictures of us when we were innocent and adorable...I mean when we first started being innocent and adorable because obviously we still are!

Looking back through these pictures just made me so happy. Weren't we so cute?!

Sunday, December 16, 2012

Today is the day I have been waiting for! I get to go home for the holidays! I'm so ready to be back. To feel the humidity. To feel the warm air. To smell the salty ocean. It is going to be great! I feel so blessed to have a loving family during this time. And I pray that those affected in Newton, CT will be comforted in this time of need.

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8: 38-39

So excited to see these crazy folk!

I Heart NY

I like to experiment with different styles, and today I woke up feeling a bit edgier than usual...but also a tad lazy. I'm sure every girl has those days. I wanted to throw something together easily, all the while managing to keep a clean, edgy look. I didn't want to over think it. This look is so simple to accomplish, it literally only took a few minutes. So without any hesitation  I reached for my leather jacket. To dress the ensemble down and to give it a cool, downtown vibe I paired it with my favorite "lived in" t-shirt, and ankle booties. And then, BAM. Done. Now how easy was that?

And there ya have it!

Song of the Week

Josh Groban does such a lovely rendition of the Drummer Boy. I love how BIG it gets during the song. Gives me goosebumps!

Today is our 5 month anniversary!
I know that seems like nothing, but to us time has gone by so fast! I can't believe that it has already been this long. To think in a month it will be half a year! Now that sounds a lot longer than 5 months. We've already done a lot in these last months.

-We moved across the US by ourselves...drove that is (CAN I JUST SAY AWFUL)
- Moved into our first place together!
- Bought our first car!
- Both got jobs within the first month of living here
- I started this blog :)
- D got all A's at BYU!

He is a HUGE soccer dude!

I feel like I've posted a lot of wedding pictures lately...oh well! They are fun to look through!
